Although “Feeding the Healthy Vegetarian Family” has some good ideas, I’m a bit apprehensive about taking vegetarian child-feeding advice from a man who isn’t a vegetarian. Haedrich’s earlier books, such as “Home For The Holidays” (which was originally published by Bantam in 1992) use red meat, poultry and seafood–all no-no’s for vegetarians. (Yes, even seafood is offlimits for veggies–real vegetarians don’t eat it.) Furthermore, his children are mentioned very, very often in “Home for the Holidays,” leaving me to suspect that they were not, in fact, raised vegetarian. “Feeding the Healthy Vegetarian Family” may have some good ideas for non-vegetarians who want to rely less heavily on poultry, red meat and seafood, but actual vegetarians may want to get thier advice from someone who’s actually walked the walk, so to speak. I mean, someone who has really, physically, rasied vegetarian kids is bound to be more helpful than someone who’s just trying to make a buck off vegetarianism’s current trendiness.

I am incredibly disappointed in this book. It’s very dated and a terrible format. These dishes are supposed to be for my family? There is NO way my kids or husband would touch any of these dishes. Don’t waste your time or money.

We bought this book to get some ideas for healthy meals for my vegetarian step-daughter and it turns out the whole family loves it. We’ve made lots of different main and side dishes from the book and they’re a big hit all around.

My family and I decided to start eating primarily vegetarian. This is a great book, lots of tasty recipes that even the kids will eat. The recipes allow you to do vegan, vegetarian or if you still need a little meat in your life, it would be easy to throw some in to some of the recipes. This booked really helped me start to get my family on the healthy eating track. Would recommend to anyone-
